APPLY and SIA Timbro are developing the first AI-driven forest inventory prototype in Latvia

We’re excited to be developing Latvia’s first AI-powered forest inventory prototype in collaboration with Timbro – a leading forestry technology company.

Our solution uses computer vision to automate the collection and interpretation of forest audit data. The goal? To make the process up to 10 times faster and reduce human error to as low as 3% – addressing both efficiency and the shortage of skilled specialists in the forestry sector.

“In our solution, we use computer vision, which allows computers to analyze and interpret visual information from images or video similarly to human sight. But unlike humans, artificial intelligence can’t immediately distinguish a rock from a bush – in computer vision, both appear as the same ‘point cloud’,” explains Agnis Jakubovics, founder of Apply.

By combining LiDAR, GNSS, and computer vision, we’re creating a tool that supports foresters in tasks like tree counting, species recognition, and volume estimation – paving the way for smarter, faster, and more sustainable forest management.
