Automatic or self-service cash registers are a modern reality and a necessity. Until now, this option has been problematic for caterers: if pre-packaged food can be marked with easy-to-read codes and scanning options, then the wide combination of different dishes can be identified only by the cashier.

The technological possibilities of computer vision were evaluated. In the course of the process, the impact of lighting on object recognition, customer buying habits, differences in similar foods, changes in the appearance of different products, which further became the basis for the preparation of AI (artificial intelligence) training data sets, were studied.

As a result, an automatic system was achieved that is able to identify specific dishes in seconds, as well as count the same products and send them to the cash register system for further processing – preparation of a payment check.
